LIVESTOCK


Sustainable livestock production is vital for food security and supports the livelihoods and food and nutrition of almost 1.3 billion people. The Fujairah Research Centre aims to improve the livestock sector's contribution to sustainable development and help farmers adopt climate-smart livestock practices.

THE LIVESTOCK RESEARCH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS:
• Camels Breeding & Genetics
• Cattle, Goat and Sheep Breeding & Genetics
• Livestock management technologies


THE OBJECTIVES OF THE LIVESTOCK RESEARCH AT THE FRC ARE:
• To carry out applied research on livestock production and health.
• To carry out research to preserve the original local breeds.
• To improve reproductive performance and apply modern reproductive technologies.
• To perform research for improving physical characteristics.
• To carry out research for enhancing meat, milk, and wool productivity.
• To conduct research on local livestock diseases.
• To develop and support local animal agriculture farming.
• To act as a repository of information on local livestock research and development.
• To develop human resources in livestock breeding, health, and management.

RESEARCH PROGRAMS

The United Arab Emirates has a significant wealth of livestock. The total number of camels in the country is estimated at 450,000 while sheep and goat herds are estimated at about 5 million forming a significant part of food security and national economy.

The aim of our research is to produce the best breed for milk at a lower cost in countries with extreme temperatures and the best breed to produce quality meat at a lower energy and contamination and analysing its development, fertility, adaptation to the environment, resistance to parasites and infectious diseases, milk and beef production.
